Remove the hood and remove unnecessary things like safety switches, right? Actually, the joint connecting the hood to the body snapped the plastic, so now I lost some dead weight, hooray! Teaches me to swap batteries between mowers!
Actually, I like the aggressive look with just the brush guard, so it’s a win to me.
Parking the mower next to the loaner I got from the neighbor.
So all in all, this is pretty standard at the household. Bets on what's gonna break next?

Looks like you have pretty much the same exact mower as MontegoMan, who was also posting about it today. Based on that, what will break next is your front spindle sockets.

I saw some of his pics, his has the same body but the internals are set up differently. I’m betting he has the battery under the seat, I have the gas tank there. Other than that, I guess craftsman is the Porsche 911 of the mower world, they all look the same.

Love the Mad Max look! I wouldn’t both putting the unnecessary panels back on.
Also, my dad and I repaired a Craftsman tractor for a friend once. It had a few issues that we sorted, but it had this issue where it would only start intermittently. Somehow we figured out it started fine if the steering wheel was turned all the way to the right. There was a safety interlock for the starter mounted on the frame - at some point the frame was bent and it was causing the interlock to make intermittent contact. Turning the wheels all the way right racked it back enough to make contact and allow it to start.

That’s....crazy... lol.
I've thought it would be clever to attach headlights to it, just for kicks. I'm just leaving the cover on it for protection when not in use. I sorta...umm, jammed the battery in there. You can see it in the pics, lol.

We had to remove the hood on my Grandmother’s old Craftsman to keep it from overheating.

Older than this one?

I have questions for you about the functionality of the deck heigh lever.
Mine is not functioning. I know it worked when I bought it from the guy, because he demonstrated it. I can’t get it to move from this first position.

In an unfortunate turn of events, you will hit a raccoon** with the pointiac and destroying the front fender. After you will be forced to replace it with a the only one you can find. It will be black and you will have car beard.
You got to watch out for the self-fulfilling prophecies man, shit’s crazy.

yep, he has a bigger motor so they put the tank in the back. Mine is 17hp

Take the headlights out of the hood that’s not really in use and find a way to attach to the front, it’ll be like a light bar lol

With mine, there is a trick, you have to be sitting to make it work. There’s no safety feature, it’s just any angle but sitting will not work when you try to depress the button.
Will the button on the lever go down, or no?

Yeah. Not sure what year, but I do believe my Grandfather got it new in the late 80’s or early 90’s. It’s been around since before me.

Is it because of the bigger mower that the setup is different then?
You should feel lucky, the battery is a pain to take out of mine. I just jammed the current one half in it, and called it a day.

Must be sitting. Interesting I didn’t try that yesterday, didn’t think it would matter. I’ll try it.
Yeah the button goes down and I can kinda force it halfway to the next notch, but that’s it.

If i get a car beard out of the mix, I’d be happy.

Yeah I think you probably got a bigger gas tank too with it being under the seat.
it’s funny how different it is because of the motor

....the deck wants to go down, via gravity, so the pressure would probably force metal on metal, thus creating resistance. So...maybe slightly pull it back, then depress it? Worth a shot.
